The Other Big 'Idol' Announcement

"American Idol" is adding some big names for its 10th season, and Jimmy Iovine is one of them.

For those of you unfamiliar with Iovine, the Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman has been a celebrated figure since the 1970’s, and has worked with artists such as John Lennon, U2, Eminem and 50 Cent.

Iovine joins "American Idol" as an in-house mentor, where he will lend his expertise and creativity to contestants backstage (Fast Company named him as one of the top 100 Most Creative People in Business this year).

“I’m looking forward to working as a mentor on the show, where I’ll work with the talent to help them develop and grow week to week,” Iovine said in a Fox press release.

"Idol" will go behind-the-scenes to show Iovine working with the contestants throughout the season. “This will also give the audience a deeper look into the artists’ abilities and give viewers more insight when making their choices,” Iovine said.

Interscope Geffen A&M will act as the distributor for "Idol’s" music, promoting and distributing albums from the finalists and winning contestants across the world.

The L.A. Times first reported that Iovine would be joining the cast of "Idol" back in August, speculating that his celebrated music background would make up for credibility lost when Simon Cowell left.
